Starbase

Each year our 5th through 8th grades look forward to participating in STARBASE Indiana. This premier educational program is sponsored by the Department of Defense. At STARBASE Indiana students participate in challenging “hands-on, minds-on” activities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). Students interact with STEM professionals to explore careers and observe STEM applications in the real world. Activities are structured as in-depth team based challenges that require:

• Budgeting
• Catastrophe
• Problem-solving
• Bartering
• Teamwork

Military volunteers apply abstract principles to real world situations. 
 

Starbase 1.0  (Grade 5)  

This week long program engages students through inquiry based curriculum presented at a specially designed facility where students utilize computers to design space stations, all-terrain vehicles, and submersibles. 

 
Starbase 2.0  (Grades 6 – 8)

After school ten-week program where students work in a team setting to explore, explain, elaborate, and evaluate various challenges utilizing STEM. Challenges include:

• Mission to Mars simulation – how to get to and survive on Mars within a budget
• High altitude balloon launch – ability to transmit digital pictures and provide data via live feed from the balloon
