Students prepare for their First Communion beginning in First Grade and receive their First Communion in second grade usually at the end of April/first of May.
For family convenience, this meeting is held three different times. Choose the time that is most convenient for your family. The student receiving the Sacrament of reconciliation along with at least one parent/guardian must attend this meeting
The meeting will last approximately an hour and 15 minutes and it is held in the school cafeteria
At this meeting students and parents will receive information about the days of First Communion and Gathering Day. During the meeting, parents will indicate their preferred date of First Communion. Families will also receive materials to use at home to prepare their child for First Communion and the students will complete a project to be displayed in the Church at First Communion.
All students preparing for First Communion are invited to be welcomed by the parish after the homily of each of the Masses. Parents and students will be called up to the altar and will receive a blessing from the presider. The students will receive a token gift as a reminder of their time preparing for this sacrament.
Gathering Day is a time of retreat and practice for our students who are receiving their First Communion. All students are expected to attend their assigned session. If a student is receiving their First Communion on a day other than the parish's First Communion dates, the student is still expected to attend the retreat part of Gathering Day.
The date of Gathering Day is Saturday, April 23.
Those receiving their First Communion of Saturday, April 30 at 6:30 pm, attend Gathering Day 9:30am-12:00pm
Those receiving their First Communion on Sunday, May 1 at 1:30 pm, attend Gathering Day 1:00-3:30pm
Parents do not have to attend all of Gathering Day with their child, but are encouraged to volunteer to help assist. Parents will need to attend the last hour of Gathering Day so that the families can practice together.
Families have the choice of attending one of the two dates reserved for First Communion: You will indicate which Mass you will be attending at the First Communion Meeting on February 27 & 28, 2022
Choices will be
Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 6:30 pm or Sunday, May 1, 2022 at 1:30 pm
On the day of First Communion, students should arrive in the school gym no later than 30 minutes before your selected liturgy begins. This allows time for a group picture and time to get organized prayerfully.
