Bible studies and other adult education programs play an important role in the spirituality of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish. Classes are offered throughout the year (typically in the fall and in the spring) to enhance personal faith development and community building. Please watch the bulletin for upcoming classes. In addition, ongoing opportunities are available for volunteers to facilitate discussion groups and instruct classes. Please contact Carole Yaney, Formation Director, if you are interested in assisting with parish adult education programs.
Christ Renews His Parish is an overnight retreat at the church in which men and women renew their faith through the power and presence of the Holy Spirit. These retreats are a great way to grow in faith and fellowship with other parishioners. Those who have participated in a Christ Renews His Parish weekend truly become renewed and can’t wait to have someone else reap the same rewards.
The HeartsAFire program is a set of series of retreats/studies based of the books of Fr. Michael Gaitley. Each class begins with a video presentation and then small groups meet in personal discussion. While Fr. Micael Gaitley suggests a specific order for participating in each study, you are welcome to join at any time for any of the group studies/retreats and are not required to do the whole program by participating in one class. To learn more about the HeartsAFire program, click here. Many parishioners have given testimony to the power of this group to help them grow in faith, fellowship, and meet fellow parishioners.
Grow in faith, fellowship, and in relationship with Jesus and His mother following the book 33 Days to Morning Glory by Fr. Michael Gaitley. This group retreat is usually offered once a year and is a part of the HeartsAFire program, but can be done independently of the program. St. John Paul II personally states how consecration to the blessed mother marked a turning point in his life. His papal motto, Totus Tuus, stemed from his consecration to the blessed mother.
“My motto; ‘Totus Tuus’ is inspired by the teaching of St. Louis Marie Grignion de Montfort. These two words express total belonging to Jesus through Mary: ‘Tuus totus ego sum, et omnia mea tua sunt,’ St Louis Marie wrote, and he translates his words: ‘I am all yours, and all that I have is yours, O most loving Jesus, through Mary, your most holy Mother’"
The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops describes the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults as a process in which participants "undergo…conversion as they study the Gospel, profess faith in Jesus and the Catholic Church, and receive the sacrament. The RCIA process follows the ancient practice of the Church and was restored by the Second Vatican Council as the normal way adults prepare for baptism."
Both adults and older children are invited to participate in the RCIA process. RCIA is a process of study, exploration, faith-sharing, and faith formation with individuals who seek to have a relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church. Individuals who participate in the RCIA process include
Catechumens, who are adults and children seeking full initiation into the Catholic Church through the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation, and Candidates, who are adults and children already baptized in a Christian tradition and who are seeking full initiation into the Catholic Church through reception of the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation.
Groups of 6-14 people meet twice a year for six weeks to grow in faith and friendship as a community. These communities are usually offered in the fall and in the spring and are available on a variety of days and times.
For other adult communities, check out the Community Fellowship page here.
