Boy Scout Troop 300

Boy Scout Troop 300 News

November Troop 300 news.  Troop 300 held our annual Thanksgiving campout where we cooked our trashcan turkey for dinner.  It consists of driving a 2 foot stake into the ground, covering it with foil and a two foot radius around it, placing the turkey on the stake and covering it with a steel trashcan, then placing hot coals around the base and on the top.  It cooks for about 2.5 hours and comes out DELISIOUS!  The boys prepared the meal and we enjoyed it around a campfire during the snow storm.  The boys then went about having snowball fights, sledding and building a really big fire to keep us warm!  Also, the Troop helped out at the Annual Galloping Gobbler 4 mile race on Thanksgiving Day.  The race starts and ends at St Francis and through Lindenwood Cemetery.  The boys setup a water station at the halfway point to give runners and walkers a chance to hydrate before finishing the race.  Then it was off to their families to enjoy the Holiday. If your son is interested in Scouting please contact Tom Tsuleff at 579-3676.

October Troop 300 news: Troop 300 teamed up with the Webelos II from back 3021, also chartered out to Saint Elizabeth, for a conservation project. The Webelos attended our Boy Scout meeting in the first week of October and mentioned they needed help with their craftsman badge and to do a conservation project to meet requirements for their Arrow of Light Award. This is the only award that a Cub Scout can wear on their Boy Scout uniform when they cross over.  In June the Visiting Nurse Hospice House in Homestead and Liberty Mills contacted us about putting up bird houses along their nature trail for the residents and their families.  We teamed up and built two Bluebird houses, which met the boys craftsman badge, and on Saturday Oct 31 we put up the the two bird houses plus two more that were donated around the nature trail. It was a great project to give back to such a great organization which helps take care of loved and their families in difficult times. If you son is interested in Scouting please contact Tom Tsuleff at 579-3676.
